SISTER MARY BERNARDINE FITZPATRICK

 

Sister Mary Bernadine Fitzpatrick, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ at the age of 94.

 

Sister Mary Bernadine was born in Newark, NJ, the daughter of Lawrence and Ellen (Carew) Fitzpatrick.  She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1933 and was a member for 76 years.

 

Sister Mary Bernadine received her B.S. in Elementary Education from the College of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ. She was an educator in New Jersey.  Sister Mary Bernadine served as a teacher at St. Joseph School, Jersey City from 1934 to 1935; St. Mary Elementary School, Plainfield, from 1935 to 1956; St. Patrick, Elizabeth from 1956 to 1967; St. Monica, Sussex, from 1967 to 1968; St. Joseph Echo Lake, West Milford from 1968 to 1970; Sacred Heart, Rochelle Park, from 1970 to 1975.  Sister Mary Bernadine served as Assistant Administrator from 1975 to 1986 and Staff Member from 1986 to 1993 at Mother Seton Residence, Montclair.  She resided at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station temporarily from 1993 to 1994 before retiring to St. Mary of the Assumption Convent in Elizabeth, NJ in 1994. In 1998 she moved to Saint Anne Villa where she resided until her death in 2010.

 

She is survived by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

 

The wake for Sister Mary Bernadine Fitzpatrick will be held in Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be on Thursday, February 4, 2010 in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station, NJ at 10:00 a.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made to the Sisters of Charity Development Fund, P.O. Box 476, Convent Station, NJ, 07961-0476.

 

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dangler Funeral Home, Summit, NJ.
