The Call of the Unicorn

How Blest We Are

Call of the Unicorn is a collection of song prayers that invite the listener to nurture the inner spirit. The unicorn is a legendary animal that is present early in history art, folklore and in the Hebrew Scriptures. Symbolically, the unicorn is often an expression of the Mystical Divine Presence. In this century, W.H. Auden uses the image of the unicorn in his poem "New Year Letter". He uses a series of images to express the Trinity and concludes by addressing Christ, the unicorn:
O Unicorn among the cedars
To Whom no magic charm can lead us,
White childhood moving like a sigh
Through the green woods unharmed in Thy
Sophisticated innocence,
To call thy true love to the dance...
I invite you to journey in song and spirit to hear and respond to the call of the unicorn.

As we walk through the seasons of our lives there is a deepening that occurs in each of us. It happens on the outside and on the inside. As we the community of St. Helen Catholic Church in Amory, Mississippi - pay attention to our lives we realize that we are "people of blessing".
We have been loved and gifted and blessed and we have to sing about it!
Perhaps the album cover designed by Erin Quigley expresses the sentiment and essence of this collection. We are called as the people who have received God's blessing by our very creation. Our call is to walk in the footsteps of Jesus and to return to the heart of God . And there we will find mercy and love.
Receive the invitation to
"rest a while in my love
that you may know my joy
that you may be my joy
that your joy may be complete."
from RETURN TO ME based on John 15:11 Kathy and the St. Helen Singers

This collection of Christmas music has grown out of the spirit of Christmas in St. Helen's Parish Community in Amory, Mississippi. We are a small and vibrant parish of forty families. The music is simple - the message profound. We have used it for Christmas programs and liturgies to enhance our celebration of Christmas and to provide a greater opportunity for participation for children and adults. Some of the pieces in this collection may be used throughout the liturgical year.
May the Spirit of Christmas stay with you now and always.
