The Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth emblem contains the pelican, the ancient symbol of divine love. The pelican is shown feeding its young from its own essence, symbolizing the spirit of sacrifice and love for others. The outstretched wings are a sign of the all – embracing love of the Sisters of Charity reaching out to the world.

Vocation Directors from NJ and NY volunteered at the Papel Youth Rally on April 19th, at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, NY. 30,000 were in attendance for the afternoon concerts, Pope Benedict’s address to the young adults, and prayer service that culminated with Kelly Clarkson singing the Ave Maria. Throughout the day there were opportunities to pray, sing, celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation and enjoy the beautiful weather.

It was a wonderful experience to see so many young people spending the day in prayer
and fun. Pope Benedict’s strong message to the crowd brought numerous cheers!
He invited the young adults to consider a vocation to the priesthood and religious life. He asked them to take the time to learn about the different charisms of religious congregations and be courageous in the possibility of a vocation church vocation.
