St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center is the first Catholic Hospital to be
founded by Mother Xavier in 1867. At that time, four sisters, in partnership
with the local clergy and lay people opened the Hospital with twelve beds.
Today, St. Joseph's is a large Medical Center composed of almost 800 beds,
4000 employees, tertiary services, a trauma unit, a fully accredited New
Jersey Children's Hospital, neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric
cardiology program, regional craniofacial center, center for pediatric
feeding and swallowing disorders, the largest in-hospital dialysis center in
the United States, an enviable cardiac program, pace-setting oncology
services, recognized geriatric services, fully accredited St. Vincent
Nursing Home, Visiting Health Services, and growing outpatient and
ambulatory care programs. St. Joseph's has also welcomed St. Joseph's Wayne
Hospital, which is an acute care medical facility. The small seed planted in
1867 has taken root and grown.
Throughout its lengthy history, St. Joseph's has remained committed to the
fundamental values of the Sisters of Charity; individual dignity, justice,
charity, service, excellence, and care of the poor. St. Joseph's has
provided superior health care through an exceptional range of comprehensive
medical and social services. Patients from all over New Jersey and from out
of state confidently come to St. Joseph's knowing they will receive
technologically advanced care from their highly skilled and compassionate
staff.
