The Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth emblem contains the pelican, the ancient symbol of divine love. The pelican is shown feeding its young from its own essence, symbolizing the spirit of sacrifice and love for others. The outstretched wings are a sign of the all – embracing love of the Sisters of Charity reaching out to the world.

are compelled by Christ’s love to make God known in the world and we invite all with whom we serve to join us in this mission:

to work with and for the poor

to alleviate suffering and dispel ignorance

to promote justice

In the tradition of Saint Vincent de Paul, we participate in the mission of the Church fundamentally through ministry supported and nourished by prayer and vowed life in community.

This ministry requires a creative response to the needs of the people of God. Faithful to the Gospel and in light of our growing awareness of global interdependence, we place ourselves on the side of the poor.

Our ecclesial mission impels us to collaborate with all those who strive to make life more human.

Therefore:
We commit ourselves to stand on the side of the poor in every work in fidelity to our Vincentian charism which calls us to inclusive love.
We commit ourselves to reverence and care for the earth and to live simply in a world of materialism.
We commit ourselves to work toward the elimination of the struggle for power by embracing gentleness and courage in a world of oppression and violence.
We commit ourselves to work toward political, economic, social, and ecclesial systems that foster justice for all.
