COVID 19 Updated 4 29 PS for social

food pantryAn Update from Sister Maureen Sullivan, SC, who is ministering in Paterson, NJ - COVID-19 may keep us at home, but it doesn't stop Catholic Family & Community Services from helping others!  Our Food Pantry in Paterson is providing bags of food for about 1,200 individuals and families each week.  We are a client choice pantry and usually clients can select their foods from the shelves on a point system.  Given the need for social distancing to protect staff and clients, we now have to hand out bags of food at the door.  This requires more volunteers to stock shelves and to fill bags at a time when many of our volunteers have age, health or family situations that prevent them from helping.  One of my jobs is to continue to work to find these volunteers.  The numbers of clients at our food pantries at Father English in Paterson, Hope House in Dover and Partnership for Social Services in Franklin have all been increasing weekly as more people deplete their income and savings.
CFCS started a new food program because of COVID-19.  We are preparing and delivering two bags of groceries to 600 seniors in the Governor Paterson Towers and the Martin de Porres Village in Paterson every other week.  This helps the seniors who are quarantined and can't get out.  There are many other ongoing services provided to the community through CFCS.  Please keep all those who are serving others in this challenging time in your prayers!

During the past few weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, we, the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, have lost 15 of our dear sisters. It was not possible to memorialize each sister with the rituals that bring closure and comfort.  As each sister was brought home to Convent Station, the Bells of Holy Family Chapel tolled as the entire congregation prayed together.

We thank God for these sisters who touched the lives of so many, each in her own way and with her own special gifts.

We know these sisters partnered with many of you in the mission of Charity and will be remembered with love and gratitude.

We invite you to share with us how your life was blessed by the presence of these sisters.  If you would like to offer a tribute to one of these sisters, you can do so on our Facebook page @SistersofCharityofSaintElizabeth.
